Almost time for a new car, but this one has been wonderful
This has been a great reliable family car. The 3rd row was what drew us to this car because at the time there were only a few crossovers on the market. There is plenty of space, and its very easy to drive. We've had the car for 10 years, and it's gotten us through the young children phase. The transmission is different than most other cars. It has the same type of transmission as a snowplow, which makes it extremely fuel efficient. That was another selling point at purchase. You won't win any acceleration contests with this car, but that makes it safe for the family. It has in the last year developed some squeaks and wobbles which can be attributed to its age. I wish this car was still on the market because I would buy an updated version of it in a heartbeat. I don't like the comps Ford has available now. We have enjoyed owning this car and will be sad when it's time to trade it in. I would recommend it to anyone that is considering purchasing a reliable used car.

A winner
We traded our 2002 Ford Explorer for an 2007 FWD Freestyle SEL about eight months ago. This is a terrific vehicle in styling, comfort, utility, performance, and reliability. The first time my sister took it on a long road trip she called enroute to ask if I thought the gas gauge was faulty. This question came because of the gas tank indicator dropping so slowly, mileage turned out to be around 32 mpg with cruise set at 75. Keep up the good work Ford!!

Good but average
The cloth seats will stain, even if you spill water on them. This is the #1 complaint of this car. I read some reviews before I bought it in 2008. Literally tried all types of cleaner for car seats and none of them have taken the stains out. Even spilled water left a stain. Since owning it for seven years, I've replaced two a/c compressors. Normal brake jobs and it will tell you when to change the oil, which is a good thing for maintenance. The other problem is some of the plastic hardware (i.e. compartment to hold garage door opener) broke a couple of years ago and now will not stay shut. Some of the lettering on the radio has worn off. The continuous transmission took some getting used to, but it will get up and go when you need it. It doesn't have enough "power supplies" for all the gadgets now days. It has been a good car, but now that kids are getting older and bigger and two dogs, long trips are unbearable due to size of car.
